Best cheap VR camera on the market now?
« on: March 04, 2017, 01:44:04 PM »

What cameras are currently on the market for a complete novice to film some VR movies either stereoscopic or just spherical.
I'd like something cheap as possible and easy to use that I can send to someone else who has limited knowledge of video editing.  Ideally it would be stereoscopic but since I don't want to pay more then $500 (preferably under $300) and I want the video to be decent I'm probably going to have to settle for spherical only.

I just haven't been paying attention to the cameras lately and I'm hoping someone knows of something new and cheap.

I'm not really up to date on all of the cameras, but there are a lot of different options out there.

Lucidcam is taking preorders for their 180 degree stereoscopic camera at $400. It looks like it does 2K 48fps video.

Samsung has their Gear 360 which is a 2D 360 degree spherical camera that does 4K at 30fps. Looks like it ranges in price from $200 to $350 depending on where you buy it.

Vuze Camera is a 3D 360 camera that records 4K video. It's out of your price range at $800, but it looks interesting.

Best Buy has a decent selection of 360 cameras here:

AliExpress has some really cheap options, but they may not be very good quality.

This one looks interesting since its foldable and can do either 2D 360 videos or 180 stereoscopic. No idea what to expect as far as quality though.
