Where on earth do I even begin?
« on: August 12, 2016, 02:32:54 PM »
I just got an Oculus Rift and was interested in checking out some... links. Problem is, I can't figure out how to get any of this working right. I set up WebVR in Mozilla Nightly, and then set the Rift to detect unknown sources, but it just stalls an a screen saying "firefox.exe is taking a while to load." I tried Chrome with WebVR enabled too, and that doesn't seem to work, at all. In Nightly it will at least track head movements on my monitor, just doesn't display anything in the VR lenses.

For that matter, I've had real hit or miss luck with games that aren't supported by the Oculus home client. Some VR porn games will be detected automatically by the Rift at launch, others just display on my screen with the Rift doing jack.

I'm wondering if there's a consistent way to get any of this stuff to actually work?

If you haven't tried the Vive then I suggest you do before it's too late to return the rift. I started as a huge Oculus fan, DK1, DK2, CV1. After I bought the HTC Vive, the Oculus went in a box and has never come out since. I know that not everyone can afford the steeper price but trust me when I say that it is worth every penny. It is also convenient that pretty much all adult content is built for the Vive these days.

If you are sticking to the rift then it will be a bit more difficult to find adult games but you can pretty easily grab a video player like whirligig on steam and enjoy lots of side by side/over-under dome/fish-eye 180/360 degree videos.

On that note, is anyone looking to buy a DK1, DK2, or CV1 Rift? Mint condition and fair pricing  ;)

For web content you can also try Alicex.com, the quality is passable. I managed to get their webvr working with the Vive to watch live camshows, I assume you could get the rift working also. It is neat to use the voice chat with the models, a little awkward but a nice feature all the same.
