UE4 eyes and hair transparancy
« on: March 09, 2015, 11:52:04 PM »
Hi guy's

I have seen you guys have sorted this out, so i can spend another couple of night figuring this out, but just better ask for help to save time.

So i got this girl imported from Daz. In Unity i got this all figured out now , but now i started to work in UE and i got to solve the same problem.

the translucent issues with the eyes, eyebrows and hair.
I got the eyebrows figured out. Set the material to tranlucent and link the texture to opacity.

But i can't get the eye's and the hair right.
Can you guys help me out here?

Edit:
I got the eyes fixxed.
Now still remains the hair. The ends of the hair should have this sort like fade, and translucency at the tips ... but it just shows the full texture .

The eye on the Daz model has a few layers. You want to make the outside 2 layers transparent and reflect like a real eye does then apply the eye material to the layer underneath.

To make a transparent material you could use something like this

Indeed that I could fix with maken the outer two layers transparant.

But i still did not get the hair Transparant.

When you exported from daz you also exported black and white textures, link those for the hair into opacity masked or opacity in the existing hair material and that's it. Also might want to make sure "two sided" is checked down to the left for a double sided texture.

Hmmm..

Yep i tried that, and there is also a blue and white texture , but nor the black and white, nor the blue and white textures , connected to the opacity or opacity mask will do the trick.

The damn hair just wont get transparant right.
What happens, when i connect these b&w  to opacity and set tranlucency to the material, this piece of hair gets almost fully transparant. It shows just a slight little bit of the texture.  As if the texture needs to be inverted.  It seems to display the pieces that's black instead of the pieces that are white. I'm not certain that;s the case though, but it sure seems like it.  ::)

I'm such a UE noob  :o, But hey we all got to learn somehow right  8)

So i actualy found a sollution myself  8)

I just added a alpha channel to the basecolor texture, and connected the alpha to opacity and set the material translucent.

And it worked!  ;D

Hi Vella, I am fighting the same issue. How does your hair look now and can you share your BP material view?

Np. as soon im able to sit begin my pc.
The hair looks fine now. It now does not show the part of the texture you should not  see. Before you saw like a Brown edge what should be transparant. That edge you can hide with a alpha channel.
